Gabor Rimner |
Gabor Rimner provided
information about the 70,000 Soviet military personnel in Hungary.
He was raised in Sudan, where his father was an architect for UNESCO, Rimner had grown up believing "that whatever goes on in Hungary under the Soviets is colonization." He was recruited out of high school by the Defense Attaché in Khartoum at the age of 19. He was trained secretly at military bases in Greece, returned to Hungary in 1973, and took translating jobs in the defense and interior ministries. Rimner reported seeing ICBM launch vehicles after escorting a foreign military delegation to a high-security Soviet army base. At that time the Soviets denied staging ICBMs
in Hungary. |
