Nicoholas Shadrin, known in Russia as Nikolai Fyodorovich Artamonov. He defected to the United States in 1959. Shadrin provided sensitive information to defense intelligence specialists. He was sentenced (in absentia) by a Soviet military tribunal Shadrin was later sent to Europe by CIA to pretend cooperation with Moscow. In 1975 the KGB discovered the ruse and kidnapped Shadrin. He died when his KGB captors botched an effort to drug him
with a sedative. |
