Robert Lee Johnson was a sergant in the US Army stationed in West Berlin. In 1953 he crossed into East Berlin and asked for political asylum. The KGB persuaded Johnson to stay in the Wes and earn second salary for spying for Soviets. In 1961 Johnson started his assignment as a guard in the US Armed Forces Courier center near Paris. Over the next two years he handled approx. 1,600 pages of top secret documents. Johnson was arrested in 1964 after a tip-off from the KGB defector Yuri Nosenko. |
