For more than a century, Grant's Tomb in New York City, the final resting place of President Ulysses S. Grant and his wife Julia, has stood as the second largest mausoleum in the Western Hemisphere. 

Since its dedication in 1897, it has had a checkered history as a monument going from one of the most visited attractions in the nation to one of its most neglected and desecrated. 

Grant authority, attorney Frank Scaturro, author of President Grant Reconsidered (University Press of America, 1998), discusses the monument's history in the twentieth century amid changing historical and architectural trends, along with the story of the recent restoration of the tomb. 

The resulting portrait depicts a structure which, like Grant, has met every challenge it faced.
