Preserving a Legacy - the Abraham Lincoln Brigade Archives and the Younger Generation.

Historian Peter Carroll and filmmaker Julia Newman address the growing interest in Spain's Civil War (1936 - 1939).

As a 55-year-old historian (of "middle age"), Peter Carroll, author of The Odyssey of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade (Stanford University Press, 1944), finds himself mediating between an older generation of Lincoln Brigade veterans who participated in the war 60-some years ago and a younger generation of students who scarcely understand the war against fascism.

He focuses on the problems of bridging that gap specifically, his efforts to preserve the legacy of the Lincoln Brigade through oral history, archival research, and historical writing, and to transmit that legacy through public history projects the future.
